Monday!

Today was a great day!  We worked on math number bonds!  The students are doing a great job figuring out that together two numbers make a different number.  As you can see below, the two lines point to the number that they make together.  This is to show that two numbers together make a different number.  Please practice this with your child at home and help them to see that the two lines point to the number they make together.  The number bond can be rotated any way, so it is important for students to be able to read the bond anyway.

This week is our review week for the letters U, K, L, and B!  Our sight words we are reviewing are: said, little, here and was.  Please practice these words at home with both a capital letter and lowercase at the beginning of the word so they can read it either way.  We had a math hunt around the room looking for real objects that have a curve or a corner and an edge.  We are beginning our shapes unit, in addition to our number bond unit!  The students loved looking around the room to see what had a curve or what had an edge and corner.   You could play this at home, you will be surprised with what they find because they were really great "mathematician detectives" today!  We finished with a really fun book "Let's Go Froggy!"

Have a great night!

Friday!

Today was a super fun filled Friday!  It started off with Grandparents Day this morning with the whole school!  It was so great to meet so many student's grandparents and even great grandparents!  Then we had Art-A-Baloo with Andy and Jen (AM) and Jackie (PM)!  Students made the coolest pictures with Sharpies!  Students tried to imitate Hundertwasser's lollipop trees or flowers, as you can see below they did a really good job!  These will be put up next week in the hallway, so come check them out!  We worked more this morning with writing number bonds different ways.  The afternoon class had a special treat, they were able to see a real live orchestra performance in the gym.

Reminders:
  • Take Home Books are due on Monday with a note if you need a new book!
  • Our class pals are due back, so if you have Clifford or Tigger please return them on Monday!
  • Homework Folders will come home on Monday!

Thursday!

What a great couple of days we have had in kindergarten!

Today, first thing we worked on a math sprint!  A sprint is a fluency timing, students are timed for 1 minute to get as many problems done as they can in that minute.  Then we had a really fun math  Play-Doh lesson where we were working on numbers that pairs together to make other bigger numbers, while using number bonds.  We then had reading groups, working on the letter Uu.  Then we read the "The Talking Vegetables" folktale, did our Daily News, Calendar, and a little Free Choice.

Tomorrow, is Grandparents Day from 8:15-9:00!
Homework Folders are Due tomorrow!
Next Friday, March 27th is PJ Day!

Have a great night!

Happy Monday!

This week our letter of the week is the vowel Uu!  Our sight words are "here" and "was."  Today, we started with a super fun matching math game, where we had to find our partners in the room that matched our number or number of things!  Then we guessed what was in my box that started with the letter u!  Some of these things were: umbrella, unicorn, unicycle, undershirt, umpire, under, and up!  We also read a book about an Umbrellabird and another book about a lucky duck!  Today is our 122 day of school and we are getting really good at counting up to the days we've been in school!  We also read a really fun book called Silly McGilly, about a leprechaun who comes at night if you put his doll in the window.  Our class has that doll, so we put it in the window today!  I wonder what he will do tonight!  :)

Reminder that today Homework folders came home!
Tomorrow, don't forget to wear green!
Thursday, take home books and Library books are due!
Friday is Grandparents Day from 8:15-9:00 am and Homework Folders are due back!

**Also, don't forget to schedule your spring conference with me!  Call the office at 465-7800 to find a time that works for you!  As always, if you need something a little different, please email me and we will find a time that works!

Have a great evening!

Marvelous Monday!

What a beautiful day!  This week we are focusing on the letter K and our new sight words are "little" and "said."  Please practice spelling, reading and writing these words and letters this week.

In math today, we are still working on more than, less than, fewer, bigger, greater and less.  We created trains or towers and figured out who had the most and least at our tables.

We read our Alphatales book, Kangaroo's Played Kazoos!  We guessed what things in my box all started with a K and what was in our Alphabet Can!

A lot of students turned in the PTO form saying they did their Dr. Seuss reading last week!  Way to go!  Homework Folders came home today.  I have noticed that some students are not writing on the lines or are writing capitals when the letter should be lowercase.  Please help "edit" your child's homework so they are getting individual feedback on what should be lowercase or uppercase.   Attached is a picture of how the lowercase letters should be formed.

Thursday!

Hello Parents,

This week has been a great week so far!  We finished up our Opinion writing last week and started on our new form of writing...Narrative.  Narrative writing is when we write to tell a story.  To start us off we learned our Narrative Intro chant:
When, Where, Who and a Hint of the Plot!
Ask you kindergartener what the moves are for this sentence!  Our story must have a beginning, middle and end, so this is just the beginning of our story.

We had reading groups today, worked on writing our stories, and in math worked some more on numbers that are less.

Tomorrow is Fun Friday! Cat in the Hat Friday!  So your little one can dress up like Cat in the Hat, please be sure they still wear tennis shoes, and bring their Library book (if they haven't).

Have a great evening!

Mrs. Wittwer

Don't forget to put Grandparents Day on your calendar!  For PM students this means that they can come to Grandparents Day from 8:15 until 9:00, then they leave and come back at their regular school start time of 12:45.

Marvelous Monday!

This week we are focusing on the /Ll/ sound and the sight words "this", "do", "and", and "what".
Today, we read the book Lulu, the Lamb likes to Laugh, guessed what was in our Question Can and What's in Mrs. Wittwer's Magic Bag that all started with our letter of the week.  We also had lots of fun reading one or two Dr. Seuss books depending on the class. We were super responsible as we wrote our names with Sharpie Markers on our swirl papers that we cut out for our Dr. Seuss wall, see the picture below.
We ended the day with making our very own Cat in the Hat.  They're really cute and already hanging in the hall.  Take a look at the picture below!

Here is a link to the PTO website if you want to see all the events coming up!  There are weekly calendars due back to school on Monday's for the PTO.  All information came home today in homework folders.
